Racquel is a 35-year-old attorney of African American and Trinidadian descent who was raised in Canarsie. Her passion to help others led her to advocate for children in child protective proceedings, and tenants who were elderly, physically or mentally impaired and facing eviction in Housing court and NYCHA hearings. A District Leader, also known as State Committee Member, is a volunteer who is elected to represent a Brooklyn Assembly District for a two-year term. A District Leader cannot pass legislation. However, a District Leader plays an important role by voting for Brooklyn Democratic Party chairperson, nominating judges, staffing the NYC Board of Elections, writing the rules that govern our local party, and liaising with local elected leaders.
